Top 5 Trends in Home Design for 2021

With 2020 in the rearview, many people are looking for a fresh, new start to their year. Why not begin with their homes? According to design professionals, these are a few of the top design trends that will take over the residential real estate and build-to-rent industry in 2021.

1. Colors of the Year: Gray and Yellow

The color experts at Pantone Color Institute announced PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating as the colors of the year for 2021. These two colors can stand on their own or work together to create a fresh, new look. After a year filled with uncertainty, these shades provide a sense of warmth, security, and positivity in 2021 when mixed with classic, neutral colors for built-ins and hard furnishings.

2. Relaxed and Cozy

With a large amount of people still spending most of their time at home, comfort has become a high priority. However, comfort does not have to compromise style. An open concept living, kitchen, and dining area can provide comfort and functionality, and by blending cozy, natural, and simple lifestyle elements, you can create a stylish space that feels like home.

3. Versatility

In 2020, we saw kitchen countertops being used as desks, desks being used as vanities, and vanities being used as classrooms. In 2021, we anticipate more multi-purpose furniture and spaces to accommodate our busy lives and provide functionality in a practical, stylish way.

4. Natural Elements, Tones and Textures

This year is all about refreshing and renewing, and natural elements can create a calm, soothing presence in a home. House plants became increasingly popular in 2020 with most people remaining inside, and they are here to stay. Light earth tones and textures are also growing in popularity and can make any home feel clean and refreshed.

5. Dedicated Home Office

The work-from-home lifestyle has resulted in many people maximizing the space available to them as makeshift home offices. As the work-from-home trend continues to persist, a dedicated home office space is a must-have. It can be difficult to live, eat, sleep and work in the same space, so an area devoted to work can make not only your work life more enjoyable, but also your home life.

We said goodbye to 2020 and it is out with the old and in with the new. For our Wan Bridge residents, we’re looking forward to hearing how they’re incorporating these trends into their build-to-rent homes.
